How to Use This Pack

The Kindergarten unit test on counting to 100. Pages 1 and 2 are Form A. Pages 3 and 4 are Form B: the same questions in the same order with different numbers and pictures, for a retake or a child who was away. Each form has 8 questions, one point each, and a Score line on its first page. Read every question aloud: a small picture beside each question number (a sun, a moon, a car) lets you say "Find the sun. Count by tens." The pre-check and the unit review are packs of their own.

In the Classroom

Give Form A the day after the unit review, to a small group at a table, reading one question at a time and waiting until everyone is done. Question 8 (full ten frames and some ones: counting a big group by tens and ones) is taught in Kindergarten in some states only: leave it out and score out of 7 if your class does not learn it. Question 7 counts ten groups of ten, so it fits the 100th day of school. The answer keys name each question's skill, so a missed question points to the lesson to reteach.

At Home

Use Form B as a check after the unit. Read each question aloud and let your child count out loud, pointing to each box.

Tips for Success

  • Read every question aloud; children answer by writing numbers in boxes
  • Say the picture first: "Find the moon," then the question
  • Let children count out loud: hearing "39, 40" helps them over a ten
  • Watch for "twenty-nine, twenty-ten": it shows where to reteach counting over a ten
  • Use Form B as a retake after reteaching what was missed

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.CC.A.1 Say the numbers in order up to 100, counting by 1s and also by 10s.
  • K.CC.A.2 Keep counting upward from a number other than 1, within the numbers already known.
  • 1.NBT.A.1 Count up to 120 from any starting number, and read, write and use numerals up to 120 to show how many objects.
