Five pages of logic with Venn diagrams labeled A, B and C instead of words, so the focus is on the language of sorting. Page 1 shades the part of a two-circle diagram that each phrase describes, from "in A" to "in both or in neither". Page 2 turns it around: name each shaded part with a phrase from the word bank. Page 3 shades parts of three-circle diagrams. Pages 4 and 5 are secret-word puzzles: each part of a three-circle diagram holds one letter, and each clue names one part. The first item on pages 1 to 3 is done as an example.
Draw a two-circle diagram on the board and shade "only in A" together, then "in A". Talk about why the middle is part of "in A" but not "only in A". Students can check each other on page 2 by reading their phrase aloud while a partner points to the part it names. The secret-word pages make a good early-finisher or partner challenge.
Draw two overlapping circles and call them A and B. Take turns saying a phrase like "not in B" while the other person colors that part. Then try three circles.
