Six pages about the twelve months. Page 1 is Building a Year: a wall of mixed-up month bricks to restack in order on the numbered bricks beside it, January done. Page 2 writes the number of each month and answers questions such as which month is number 7. Page 3 gives eight months to write the month before and after, including December to January. Page 4 has the 30 days has September rhyme and the knuckle trick drawn as two fists, then the days in every month to fill in. Page 5 sorts the months into the four seasons from a word bank, and page 6 writes their short names (Jan., Feb., ...) and reads four back.
Sing or chant the months before page 1 and point to each brick as you say it. For page 4, have students make two fists side by side and count the months across the knuckles together: knuckles have 31 days. Add each student's birthday month to page 5 and see which season has the most birthdays.
Find each family member's birthday on a calendar and say its month number. Ask what month it is now, what month comes next, and how many days this month has.
