Each page has four programs drawn as flow charts. A program starts at a number, then repeats two steps: it prints the number, then changes it by the rule. The code is right, but one or two numbers in its output came out wrong. Students run the code, circle each incorrect number, and write the number that should be there; the question says whether there is one wrong number or two. There are three levels: pages 1 to 4 are on grade level with all four operations; pages 5 and 6 are support pages that add and subtract within 100, with one wrong number each; pages 7 and 8 are a challenge, with bigger numbers, two wrong numbers in every program, and slips that look right at first, like swapped digits.
Debug the first program together: run the code one step at a time and compare each result with the output. Students can work in pairs, one running the code and one checking the output.
Ask your child to run the program out loud and touch each output box as they go. When the box does not match, that is the bug.
